Southern Accent: The Necessity of a Show Like This

“There’s a very sophisticated conversation in the South that people outside of the South don’t know about,” says Trevor Schoonmaker, Chief Curator and Patsy R. and Raymond D. Nasher Curator of Contemporary Art at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, and co-curator of the exhibition Southern Accent: Seeking the American South in Contemporary Art. Before the show opened in September, Southern Cultures sat down with Schoonmaker and artists Stacy Lynn Waddell and Jeff Whetstone, both featured in the exhibition.
